Japanese Ōhi-ware mizusashi, or covered fresh-water jar, bearing the hand-painted signature of Ōhi Chōraku.

This substantial ceramic tea-ceremony vessel features a rounded body decorated with an expressive landscape and floral design in cobalt blue, rust, brown and gray-green glazes. The fitted lid is topped by an unusual sculptural arched handle resembling two elephants with joined trunks.

The unglazed base is signed in Japanese characters “大樋長楽,” identifying Ōhi Chōraku. Chōraku lived from 1902 to 1991 and was an eighth-generation successor associated with the historic Ōhi pottery tradition of Kanazawa, Japan.

Preowned vintage condition with overall glaze crazing, scratches, surface marks and natural variations from hand production and firing. The matching lid is included. No obvious major chips or breaks are visible in the photographs. The original wooden presentation box and accompanying documentation are not included.
